TSNY COVID-19 Statement

Trapeze School New York is committed to keeping our staff and students protected from COVID‑19. Therefore, we must implement and adhere to strict COVID‑19 policies written with the guidance of the guidelines set in place by the CDC, NYSDOH, and NYCDOH. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate changes during this challenging time.

Our policy throughout the COVID‑19 pandemic has been to err on the side of caution as we are a hands‑on, high contact sport. In order to keep our staff and students as safe as possible and continue to run our school at the highest capacity, we have made various changes throughout the course of the pandemic such as mask requirements, vaccination requirements, limiting spectators in our space, and increased sanitizing of regularly used equipment.

In the event that we are informed of a positive COVID case from someone who has recently visited our space, staff or otherwise, we must adhere to strict NYSDOH rules on how close contact is defined. Close contact is defined by the NYSDOH as anyone who had direct physical contact, was taught by, or otherwise interacted with, an individual within six feet for 10 or more cumulative minutes in a 24‑hour period. Anyone who falls into this category will be informed that they potentially had close contact with a person who tested positive for, or has symptoms of, COVID‑19. Moreover, that means anyone who had close contact with the person within two days before they had symptoms or tested positive – the "contact tracing date" - is informed ASAP.

As a place of employment, we are not legally allowed to disclose privileged information (such as medical records or test results) to any person who does not fall within the category of a close contact; therefore, in order to respect and protect our staff members’ privacy, students are not informed en masse about any COVID‑19 quarantine or test results. Rest assured that if any person is noted as a close contact of someone who tests positive for COVID‑19, that person will immediately be informed and instructed to await a call from NYC Test and Trace Corps for further information and instruction.

We are continuing to monitor the guidelines prescribed by federal, state, and local authorities. Restricting certain staff, students and spectators from the space is not something we take lightly, however, this abundance of caution is in place to protect our community. While we are running at full capacity, limiting spectators in our space lowers the risk of possible exposures which in turn keeps our staff and students safer. It is this extreme action and caution which has allowed TSNY to stay open and offer a circus home for many displaced circus artists here in NYC throughout the pandemic. We hope that it also allows us to remain open; however, we can only do so if we follow strict CDC and DOH guidelines while maintaining the privacy and integrity of our staff.
